We are seeing reports of Baltimore Orioles at <span style=\"color: #366092;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/birdhousesupply.com\/bird-feeders\/\"><span style=\"color: #366092;\">bird feeders<\/span><\/a> <\/span>in Michigan, Vermont and other northern states. Most Orioles will be moving a bit farther north before mating begins in earnest, but if you\u2019d like to try to encourage them to nest in your yard follow the tips below.<\/p>\n<h2>How to encourage nesting orioles<\/h2>\n<p>Orioles are extremely shy birds. To encourage them to nest in your yard, you\u2019ll need to have proper tree cover&#8211;usually a willow, elm or similar style tree with plenty of thick branches. They will build their nest among the branches.<\/p>\n<p>Put out a <a href=\"https:\/\/birdhousesupply.com\/birdhouse-extras\/\"><span style=\"color: #366092;\">nesting extras<\/span><\/a> like hair, yarn and small threads for the birds to use for their cup-like nest building efforts.<\/p>\n<h2>Recognizing an oriole nest<\/h2>\n<p>Look for a nest that resembles a sock. It will hang from a tree branch and be well hidden from the human eye, unless you\u2019re looking carefully for it. Look for fibers hanging from a high branch in an elm tree to see the nest-building process from the beginning.<\/p>\n<h2>Offer ripe food at your bird feeder<\/h2>\n<p>Baltimore Orioles, unlike many other fruit-eating birds, seem to have an almost exclusive preference for extremely ripe and richly colored fruit&#8211;think orange slices and grape jelly. Make sure you have these at your <span style=\"color: #366092;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/birdhousesupply.com\/oriole-bird-feeders\/\"><span style=\"color: #366092;\">oriole feeders<\/span><\/a> <\/span>both at this time of year and in the early fall when they are migrating south again.<\/p>\n<p>Orioles, particularly the Baltimore variety, are some of the most sought after back yard birds.
